Streetwear Clothing Style

by Matt Dronkers

In the past clothing style was adopted according to the standard of the time. Today it has changed a lot and one has multiple choice of fashion in garments. Fashion changes as the time goes by and it gives a way to emerging a different style of clothing known as streetwear.

What does the 'term' streetwear mean? It is a kind of clothing style generally inspired by its surrounding lifestyle of the street. It deals with the urban themes like graffiti and encodes the culture of such surroundings into clothing fashion. Most importantly, it gives clothing a high quality.

Streetwear style of clothing is not a new thing invented right now. Such style of clothing was there around 1980's. It was the time when the movement of punk was in vogue and that was resulted in hip-hop trend. That is how it has some kind of similarities with hip-hop culture.

Streetwear has traveled a long trajectory to reach the present time. It was initiated by Shawn Stussy who offered his service in California as a local surfboard shaper of Laguna Beach. He sketched his own logo for surfboard design that was finally printed on t-shirts.

Hip-hop culture emerges to be self-expressive and this quality is better expressed in streetwear. The feelings of designers are expressed in their designs. As the people put on that designed cloths it becomes their expression of how they feel. In this respect it becomes something more than just designs on the cloths.

Streetwear style of clothing has become the part of the fashion of today. It inspires the designers of today but very few could achieve the quality streetwear offers. Some items like sunglasses, bags are available in high quality.

Today Streetwear has almost become a synonym for fashion. It takes inspiration from the traditional look and style of the past at the one hand and modern youth culture of today at the other. It tends to be the fusion of these two traditional and modern outlooks. For example, one can wear suit one day or can prefer to wear well designed streetwear t-shirts the next day.
